Peer Support Services (PSS)

Peer Support Services (PSS) assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) or substance use challenges in developing daily living skills. Provided by NC-certified Peer Support Specialists, PSS helps beneficiaries navigate challenges, access resources, and work toward personal goals, promoting recovery, independence, and community integration.

How It Works

Step

Assessment & Service Planning

A comprehensive assessment is conducted to determine the medical necessity of services. A person-centered plan is developed to outline the individual’s goals and needs.

Step

Service Delivery

Peer Support Specialists provide one-on-one or group support in various settings, including the individual’s home, community, office, virtually, telephonically, or even emergency departments. Services may include skill-building, emotional support, and resource navigation.

Step

Coordination & Oversight

Services are delivered under the supervision of a qualified professional (QP). Peer Support Specialists work collaboratively with other service providers to ensure coordinated care but do not act as first responders in emergencies.

Step

Ongoing Evaluation

Regular documentation and updates to the person-centered plan ensure that services remain aligned with the individual’s progress and evolving needs.

Who It's For

  • Individuals with IDD who need support in developing or maintaining daily living skills.
  • Adults recovering from substance use disorders who require guidance and peer-driven support to navigate challenges.
